That $40 password manager app I bought actually saved my bank account

Last month I paid 40 bucks for a family plan of a password manager after my brother got his email hacked. He used the same password for everything, including his banking. The app auto-generated a 20-character gibberish password for each site, and I thought it was overkill until I got a fraud alert on my credit card. Turns out the old password I used for a forum was leaked in a data breach, but since I changed it, the hackers couldn't touch my account. Has anyone else had a small purchase like this pay off big time in a weird way?

That's a great example of how a small investment in security can save you a lot of trouble down the road. My wife and I had a similar situation with a password manager a few years back, I think it was around twenty-five dollars. We got a notice that an old password of mine was found in a breach, but since we had already switched to random ones, nothing happened. Now my brother-in-law finally got one after his Netflix got taken over, and he's still grumbling about the cost, but it's already a relief for my sister.

My buddy Jim spent $20 on a password manager after his email got hacked and never looked back @margaretf40.
