Talking with a mechanic about his key fob made me rethink my whole password setup

He said he uses the same PIN for everything because remembering 40 different ones is impossible, and that hit different after I watched him unlock his work tablet with a code that was literally his birthday, so has anyone else run into this where real world convenience just beats best practices every time?

His birthday" got me because my dad does the same thing, but the wild part is he made it even worse. He wrote his passwords on a sticky note and taped it to his monitor at work, and when I called him out on it he said "well if someone breaks in they'd have to find the note first." Like that's some kind of fortress logic. I get it though, I still use the same password for like 3 things from 2011 and I just add a number to the end when a site forces me to change it.
