Spent $200 on a VPN service that promised perfect privacy, actually slowed everything to a crawl

I signed up for a year of SuperVPN Pro after reading all the hype about how it hides your IP and stops hackers. Cost me $200 for 12 months, seemed like a deal. But after installing, my internet speed dropped from 200 Mbps to like 15 Mbps, even on nearby servers. Tried support but they just said to restart my router, no help. I regret not going with a free trial first or just sticking to a basic browser VPN. Has anyone else been burned by expensive VPN promises the same way?

Ugh yeah that sucks man. I had the same problem with a different premium VPN and finally fixed it by switching to the WireGuard protocol instead of OpenVPN in the settings, made a huge difference.

Three hundred KB/s? I ran the same test with OpenVPN at 2 AM and still got 50 MB/s on a basic server. Honestly, is this really that disruptive for just checking email or watching a couple YouTube videos? Unless you're doing heavy torrenting or trying to stream 4K, a slow VPN is still way better than no VPN in terms of security. Did you try just running a speed test at different times of day before messing with protocols?
