Picked a $12 YubiKey over my phone's authenticator app after a scam call in March, did I mess up going with the cheaper one?
A guy on the phone knew my bank's name and last 4 digits of my card so I panicked and grabbed a hardware key at Best Buy, but now I'm wondering if I should have just stuck with the free app since it's the same main thing.

$12 for a YubiKey is a solid deal, those usually run $25 to $50. Plus a key can't get phished like a code from a text or app can, the scammer would need your actual key in hand. So nah, you didn't mess up, you leveled up.
