My device almost got hacked through hotel Wi-Fi.
Enable firewall and use VPNs on unfamiliar networks.

Actually, the whole idea of relying on a VPN on hotel Wi-Fi is overrated from what I've seen. Most devices already have firewalls turned on by default. Adding a VPN often just slows your internet down for little real benefit. The bigger danger usually comes from phishing scams or downloading bad apps, not the network itself. You're better off making sure your passwords are strong and using two-factor login. Trusting only a VPN can make you feel safe while missing other risks.

Hey rowank69, I've noticed that exact slowdown with hotel VPNs too.

Yeah the "slows your internet down" part is so real. I was at a conference in Chicago last year and my VPN kept dropping the connection every time I tried to upload a big file for work. Ended up just turning it off to get anything done, which kinda defeats the whole point.
