I finally ditched my password manager for a physical notebook

Everyone says a digital password manager is the only safe way, but after my manager got hit by a weird bug that locked me out for a full day, I switched to a small notebook I keep in a locked drawer. I compared the risk of a local break-in to the risk of a cloud-based service failing or getting hacked, and for me, the notebook wins. It's offline, I control it, and I've never forgotten a password since I started writing them down 6 months ago. Has anyone else moved away from digital password tools after a bad experience?

LastPass had a major breach in 2022 that exposed encrypted vaults. A notebook can be stolen or lost in a fire, but a strong master password on a digital manager protects you from remote attacks. The real risk is someone across the globe trying your logins, not a burglar looking for cash.

Wow, @reese177, you just changed my whole view on this. I always figured a notebook was safer because it's physical, but you're right about the real threat being online. A strong master password does stop those remote attacks, which are way more likely than someone stealing my notebook. I'm going to rethink my password setup now.
