Got hit with a phishing email at 6 AM and almost fell for it

I was sitting in my home office in Austin last Thursday, checking email before coffee (bad move). This message from what looked like my bank said there was a suspicious login attempt and I needed to verify my account right away. It had the real logo and everything, but the link was some weird .xyz domain. I clicked it by accident before I caught myself, and my heart just dropped. I immediately closed the browser and called my bank's fraud department on their official number. They confirmed it was a scam and told me I did the right thing by calling. Has anyone else had close calls with these increasingly realistic phishing emails that come through early in the morning?

@margaretf40 nailed it. Early morning scams hit different.

Right, because nothing says "secure banking" like a 6 AM panic message with a domain that looks like alphabet soup. Glad you caught it before handing over your life savings.

Dude same thing happened to me last month with a fake PayPal alert at 5 AM, almost typed my password in before I realized.
