Found out my router was hacked because of a 5 year old firmware update

I was messing with my network settings and saw my router hadn't been updated since 2019. Checked the logs and someone had been tunneling traffic through it for months. When was the last time you actually checked your router's firmware?

Oh gosh, this hits close to home. I had a similar scare a few years back when my internet started acting sluggish and found out my router had been compromised through an old firmware too. Now I set a calendar reminder every few months to check for updates, it's such a simple thing but easy to forget.

You're not the only one who had that scare. It's wild how something so small can cause such a headache down the line. I've been there too, thinking my internet just had a bad day until a friend pointed out the router was running four years behind on security updates. Those calendar reminders are a lifesaver, honestly wish I'd thought of that sooner. Why do we always figure out the simple fixes after the damage is done, right? Makes you wonder how many other basic things we just overlook until they bite us.
