Vent: I was mounting my sleeper motherboard wrong for 3 builds and a $12 part in Fresno showed me why
I kept wondering why my 2004 beige tower ran so hot even with good fans, so I finally pulled the board out and saw the standoffs were off by about 2mm, which meant the board was slightly twisted the whole time. A guy at a shop in Fresno pointed at the bow in the PCB and just said 'that board's been stressed since day one.' So now I'm stuck on two sides of this: do you chase the perfect standoff height on every old case, or is a little flex just part of living with 20 year old stamped steel? Half of me thinks the purists are right that you measure everything twice, and the other half thinks I'm overthinking a case that was never square from the factory. Where do you all land on this?
