Trick I learned from an IT guy at a flea market in Phoenix saved me $200 on a sleeper build

He told me to strip the original case's I/O shield and glue it onto a new motherboard plate instead of cutting up the metal, and now my 1998 Compaq case fits a modern board without any ugly gaps or damage.

Oh, "a lot of work" - you kidding? That trick is ten minutes with some super glue and zero swearing compared to cutting and filing and STILL ending up with a janky fit. I've done it both ways and trust me, the glued-on I/O shield method is WAY easier than trying to line up a dremel cut on a curved vintage case panel. Plus you keep the original look intact and that matters for resale or just your own peace of mind. Don't knock it till you've tried it on a $15 thrift store case that needs to look clean on your desk.

Is the gap really that big a deal if you're not looking at the case sideways? Seems like a lot of work to avoid a half inch of plastic.
