My uncle talked me into keeping the old 90s beige case for my new build
We were at his place in Cleveland last weekend and he saw me sorting parts for a brand new black mid-tower. He said 'that flashy case is just gonna sit there looking like a toy, but an old Dell case with a 4070 inside is a conversation piece.' At first I thought he was just being nostalgic about his old Gateway. But after he showed me his own sleeper with a Ryzen 7 in a dented Compaq box I started seeing his point. Has anyone else had a family member talk you into keeping a beat up old case instead of building fresh?

And honestly the uncle is onto something with the whole conversation piece angle. I helped a buddy do this last year with his dad's old beige Compaq from 1998 and we crammed a modern motherboard and an RTX 3060 in there using a dremel and some zip ties. The best part was at LAN parties when people would walk by and go 'wait that ancient brick can run Cyberpunk?' Then they'd see the RGB glow through the floppy drive slot and lose their minds. It's like a sleeper car but for computers, you know? The only downside is airflow but if you're willing to get creative with ventilation holes its totally worth the weird looks you get at Micro Center.

The glow through the floppy slot is some next level flex, love it.
