My 2003 beige tower is dead because a $6 SATA cable cooked itself, and I need ideas
So my sleeper build just bit it last Thursday night. I had a 2019-era Ryzen 5 and a 3060 tucked inside this old 2003 beige Compaq tower, and it ran cool for almost two years. Then I heard a little pop, smelled burnt plastic, and the whole system shut off mid-game. Opened it up and one of the SATA power cables had melted right at the drive connector, took a cheap SSD with it. I think the old case has a sharp metal edge near the drive cage that slowly wore through the insulation over time. Now I'm out a drive and I'm scared to reuse the case. Has anyone here dealt with a sleeper case chewing up cables, and how did you fix it?
