I finally found a tiny 350 watt PSU that fits in my old IBM 5162 case without any dremel work
After three failed attempts with different flex ATX units that either didn't have the right pinout or ran too hot, the SilverStone FX350-G actually dropped right into the AT bracket with just a 3D printed adapter, has anyone else managed to fit modern PSUs into those old XT cases without gutting the frame?

Yeah honestly I used to be one of those guys who thought you could just cram any old flex ATX in there and call it good, I had this whole shelf of salvaged Delta units from scrapped office towers thinking I was being clever. But after watching three of them cook themselves in my 5162 over the span of a month, I finally broke down and tried the FX350-G and yeah, I was dead wrong about it being overpriced or whatever. The efficiency is way better too, I measured the temps with a thermal probe and the SilverStone stays around 38C under load while those old Deltas would hit 55C and then the fan would just scream. Your buddy's Optiplex Delta unit thermal throttling thing makes total sense now, I had a 300 watt from a Precision that did the same exact thing because the fan curve was never meant for sustained load in a tiny case. That adapter you mentioned is the real key, I printed one that uses the exact IBM bracket holes with a little offset so the PSU sits flush against the back panel, no dremel needed.

I read somewhere that the FX350-G actually has a higher efficiency rating than most of those old Compaq or Dell flex units people salvage from office machines. My buddy tried using one of those Delta Electronics 300 watt units from an old Optiplex and it kept thermal throttling because the fan was too small for the load. The SilverStone seems like the only one that handles the 40mm fan without sounding like a jet engine. I wonder if the adapter you printed used the same mounting holes as the original IBM P8/P9 connector bracket or if you had to rig something up. That whole "drop in" thing is RARE for these old cases, most require some kind of bracket mod.
