Blew a PSU on my 486 case build during a LAN party demo

Was showing off my sleeper at a friend's place in Austin last Saturday, and the old beige case suddenly went pop right as I booted up Doom... smoke came out of the vent slots and everything. I swapped in a spare 500W I keep for emergencies, but now I'm paranoid about airflow since the case is so sealed up. Anyone else ever fried a component in front of a crowd and had to play it cool?
