Board member's tip about balcony cabins backfired hard on my Alaska trip

Someone on here swore port side was the only way to see glaciers, so I paid an extra $180 for a specific room on Celebrity last month and ended up staring at the ship's smokestack the whole time. Anyone else get burned by internet advice that sounded too certain for real life?
