A deckhand in Cozumel taught me more than any shore excursion
Back in 2019 on a Royal Caribbean ship, we docked in Cozumel and most folks rushed off to the beach clubs. I stayed on deck watching the ropes and this older deckhand, Miguel, started pointing out which birds were following the ship and why. He said, "Tourists look at the water, but the crew looks for what's moving under it." We talked for maybe 20 minutes about how he'd worked the Caribbean route for 11 years and never got tired of the same sunset. Has anyone else had a better conversation with staff than with the actual ports?
