Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to research a simple historical setting for a story
Honestly, I spent like 4 hours last night just trying to figure out what people ate for breakfast in 1890s rural Kansas. I thought I could wing it with 'bacon and eggs' but then I found out eggs were sometimes rationed in winter. The actual answer I finally found was corn mush with molasses, took me way longer than the story itself. Has anyone else hit a weird research rabbit hole that ate up your whole writing time?
