Tried writing a story from a random object in my kitchen and it went sideways

I grabbed a rusty can opener from my junk drawer and tried to build a fantasy story around it. I figured it would be a cursed key for a dungeon. After about 500 words, the story turned into a weird comedy about a goblin chef. It taught me that starting with a simple, physical thing can pull your plot in a direction you never planned. Has a random object prompt ever sent your story totally off the rails?

Ever notice how fixing one thing at work just makes another problem pop up?

Honestly I've never had that happen. I mean if I pick a random object I just stick to my plan, idk maybe it's just me but I don't see how a can opener turns into a goblin chef unless you let it.
