Pro tip: I started writing my prompts as a single weird question

I was stuck on flat ideas, so I tried framing every prompt as one odd question, like 'What if your shadow started giving you bad advice?' It forces a story right away. What's your favorite way to kickstart a prompt?

But what if that just makes all your stories feel the same? It seems like a quick fix, but it might just trade one kind of flat idea for another. You end up with a bunch of gimmicks instead of real depth.

Real depth" sounds like what I call the bottom shelf in the warehouse, and nobody wants to go down there.

My old gym had a rule about using the same three machines every time, and it got boring fast. That's what happens when you just swap one set of tricks for another, like @piper175 said about avoiding the bottom shelf. You're still stuck in the same small room, just with different wallpaper.
