My writing group in Austin totally missed the point of my prompt last week
I gave them a prompt about a character finding a key in a library book, and everyone wrote a mystery about the key's owner. I meant for it to be a metaphor for unlocking a memory. I had to stop the meeting and explain my idea, which felt awkward. Has anyone else had a prompt get totally misunderstood by their group?

Maybe your prompt was just unclear.

Oh totally, that happens to me all the time. I'll spend forever on a prompt and it still comes out weird. I've found you have to be super specific, like way more than you'd think. It's a skill for sure.
