Kept a prompt journal for 60 days, now I sit and stare at a blank page
I got stuck on a story last spring and a friend in Portland suggested I try a prompt journal instead of just freewriting. I did it for 60 days straight and filled about 40 pages with little scenes and character sketches. The problem is now I open my document and freeze up, because none of my own ideas feel as fun as the stuff I wrote from prompts. I'm debating whether to just write my novel as a series of prompts stitched together, or throw the journal out and start fresh. Has anyone else gotten so used to prompts that sitting down with no rules felt impossible?
