I finally tried that 'write a story from a random object in your room' prompt after thinking it was silly for years.
I grabbed a chipped coffee mug my kid made in 2018, wrote about it being a wizard's lost scrying cup, and ended up with a 2,000 word opening chapter I actually like, so has anyone else had a dumb-sounding prompt work way better than expected?

Honestly, that's just a fun writing exercise. It's not some magic trick for a real book. You just got lucky with a good idea this time.

My friend's writing exercise turned into a published novel last year.

Feel for you, @butler.tessa, that's rough.
