Hot take: my 10 minute prompt about a haunted toaster turned into a 3 week saga over one dumb rule
I gave my writing group a prompt about a haunted toaster and figured everyone would knock out 500 words by Friday, but then we hit a wall over whether the ghost had to be the toaster itself or could just live inside it. We argued about that for THREE meetings, including one where Dave brought a printed 4 page essay defending "possessed appliance" as a separate genre from "haunted object." I finally just wrote mine with the ghost as the toaster and it took me 20 minutes, which made the whole fight feel insane. Now I'm scared to suggest another object prompt. What household item would you pick that WON'T start a 3 week war?
