Had a writing prompt about time travel that turned out way better than I expected

I usually skip prompts about time travel because they're always the same 'go back and kill Hitler' type stuff. But this one on a forum last month was different. It said 'you wake up in your childhood home but the year is 1995 and the only way back is to find a message you left yourself in a place only you would know.' I thought it was dumb at first but then I really got into it. I started thinking about what 10 year old me would have hidden from my parents. Ended up writing a whole scene about finding a chewed up pencil under a floorboard in my bedroom closet. The whole exercise made me remember details about my old house I hadn't thought about in 20 years. Now I'm checking that same prompt thread every day to see what other people came up with. Has anyone else tried a prompt they normally skip and got surprised by it?

That's exactly how it goes sometimes. Love when a simple prompt brings back old memories you didn't know you still had.

Eh, I'd argue half the fun is those predictable prompts done well though.
