Wind load check before the jump saved my boom in Hobart

I was set up on a 12-story job in Hobart last Tuesday, and the anemometer on site was reading 28 knots while the load chart said I was good to 30. The gust hit right as I was lifting a 4-ton HVAC unit, and the sway was bad enough that the rigging started to twist. Do you guys trust the onsite wind meter or do you use your own handheld gauge before every pick?

Man, nobody ever talks about what that gust does to the rigging itself, not just the load. A 4-ton unit swinging on twisted lines can shock load way past what your chart says, so the meter reading almost doesn't matter once it's already moving. I'd rather wait out a sketchy gust than trust any meter to tell me how bad the sway's gonna get.
