Why does nobody talk about how much a single crane cable actually weighs?

I was loading a 200-foot cable on a job outside Denver last month and got curious, so I looked it up and it turns out a 1-inch cable like we use everyday weighs nearly 400 pounds just by itself, has anyone else ever actually weighed one before?

Yep, weighed a coil of 7/8 cable last year and it was right around 350 pounds, catches you off guard if you're not expecting it. Just make sure you've got a good tagline setup on that spool before you try moving it.

Doubt it's that big a deal, man. I've hauled way heavier stuff without a tagline and it was fine. 350 pounds isn't nothing, sure, but it's not like you're manhandling a shipping container.
