Why does nobody mention checking the wind before you even leave the yard

A 30 year guy named Dale on my first real job in Fort Worth gave me that piece of advice 6 years ago, and last Tuesday a 40 mph gust on the load chart almost proved him right the hard way. Anybody else plan their picks around the forecast, or do you just read it off the anemometer once you're up?
