Took me 6 months to realize I was leveling the boom wrong on my Grove 45-ton.

An older operator watched me set up and said 'son, you're chasing the bubble instead of finding the sweet spot.' Now I just let the machine settle and trust the hydraulic self-level, and my picks are way smoother. Anyone else get humbled by a simple adjustment like that?

That bubble thing gets so many of us. I remember fighting a 50-ton for like an hour before an old-timer just walked over and told me to set the brakes and wait ten seconds. Completely stopped the sway. Now I just let the hydraulics do their thing and it saves so much headache.
