Rigging a 20 ton transformer took me 4 hours longer than it should have

I had to lift a transformer off a concrete pad last week in Pittsburgh. The lift points looked fine from the ground but once I got up there the angles were all wrong. Had to drop the hook twice and re-sling it. Whole job took about 7 hours when it shouldve been 3. Anyone else have a simple lift turn into an all day thing because the rigging setup was funky?

Hang on, were the lift points actually off from the specs or was it a case where the pad was just poured weird? I've had that happen before where the concrete settled different and the whole transformer sat crooked, throwing the sling angles way out of whack.

Man that's when you know it's gonna be one of those days, the kind where you start questioning all your life choices up to that point. Last time something like that happened to me I ended up having to cut a brand new strap because the shackle was pinched so bad from a weird angle. By the time I got it all sorted out I was standing there in the rain thinking "well at least OSHA's not here to see this circus." Gotta love when the blueprints and reality decide to have a disagreement.
