Rant: stop booming down with the load swinging, I watched it bite a guy on a job in Fresno
Working a tilt-up job off Highway 99 in Fresno and a newer operator kept booming down while his load was still swinging, and the block started walking on him sideways. I yelled at him over the radio to stop, freeswing it, and let the tag line catch up before he touched the ground. He told me he was taught that getting the load down fast is what counts, and I get it, the supers push, but I have watched a 12 foot spreader swing back and take a guy's knee out. What gets me is how many guys never get taught to watch the hook block hang, that line should be dead still before the load sets. Any of you got a trick for getting green operators to slow down when the whole crew is yelling at them to hurry up?
