Old timer on the Libby Dam job taught me rope handling in 2007

I was running a Grove RT on a dam project near Libby, Montana, and this 60-something guy named Earl kept walking over to check my tag lines. He told me if I didnt keep a half hitch on the load line during a 100 foot lift, Id lose the whole thing to a swing. Anyone else ever get a lesson from one of the old guys that actually stuck with you?

Earl ever explain why a half hitch works better than a clove hitch for that situation, or was it more of a "just do it" kind of deal?
