Old timer on a job site in St. Louis showed me how to read the wind better
I was setting up a 50 ton Grove on a bridge project near the river. This guy must have been 70, walked over and just watched for a minute. He pointed at some leaves on a tree about 100 feet away. Said not to trust your weather app or the flag on the pole, watch the tree tops and the trash on the ground. The wind swirls different near big structures. I had been fighting a swing that day and after I adjusted my pick to his method, things smoothed right out. Anyone else pick up a pointer from an older hand that actually saved you time?

That tree top trick works way better than any gauge, especially around bridges where the wind bounces off the concrete and messes with your load.

Yeah did you ever try that trick while half asleep and almost take out a low branch instead? I swear my truck has more scars from my "clever" shortcuts than actual work.
