Old foreman told me my tag lines were too tight, changed my whole approach

I used to crank my tag lines super tight thinking it gave me more control, especially on windy days in Seattle. Then my foreman watched me land a beam and just said "you're fighting the load, not guiding it." He showed me how leaving a little slack lets the crane do the work and the tag line just steadies it. Now I get smoother picks and my arms aren't shot by lunch. Anyone else get told they were over-correcting something on site?

Letting the load breathe makes a world of difference.

Read a piece in some construction safety blog that said tight tag lines actually increase swing risks on windy days. Funny how the old heads got that figured out way before the internet did.
