Just realized an old timer's comment about my two-blocking completely changed my approach.

He said, 'You're watching the hook, but you need to feel the load through the stick,' so now I keep a finger on the hoist lever to sense the line tension before I even look up.

Spot that all the time with people who are really good at something. My uncle fixes cars by sound, he doesn't even need the computer half the time. It's like you move from following the steps to just knowing the feel of it. Reading a recipe versus knowing by smell when the sauce is right. That shift from looking to feeling is when you stop working at it and just start doing it.

Totally get that shift from steps to instinct. I used to overthink my guitar playing until one day I just felt the rhythm instead of counting beats. Now my hands just know where to go without me telling them.
