Ground crew using hand signals for me from a mirror reflection is driving me crazy
Last Tuesday on a site near the river, this spotter kept giving me directions while looking at my crane through a truck's side mirror, so his left was my right and I nearly swung a load of rebar into a fence. He kept nodding like we were on the same page, but we clearly weren't, and I had to stop the lift and walk over to reset the whole communication. Does your crew have a rule about line of sight, or do I need to just insist on radios for everyone from now on?

So did he actually say he could see you fine through that mirror, or was he just guessing based on what he thought you'd do? Because that's the part that gets me, the nodding along like everything's cool when you're one bad signal away from a mess. I'd want to know if radios are even an option on that site or if they're just too cheap to hand them out.
