Finally figured out the trick for swinging loads in tight spots
Been running a 50 ton Grove on a downtown Austin job for 2 months now. The alley we're working in is barely wide enough for the outriggers, and every pick had me fighting the swing to avoid hitting the scaffolding. I tried slowing everything down, using the tagline crew more, nothing worked. Then one morning I watched an old hand on the site use a quick counter-swing with the boom lowered just a foot, and it killed all the pendulum effect. Now I drop the boom slightly before any tight swing, and I'm landing loads clean with half the corrections. Anyone else try this or do you have a different move for narrow sites?
