Boom truck jib pin trick I picked up on a job site last week
We were setting AC units on a rooftop in Nashville and my jib pin kept binding up when I tried to swing it out. Another operator walked over and showed me to tap a thin feeler gauge between the pin and the bore before hitting it. That little gap let the grease work in deeper and it slid right in after two taps. Saved me maybe 20 minutes of cussing and hammering. Anyone else got a quick trick for stubborn jib pins on a Grove?

Had a similar issue on an older Terex and a buddy showed me to use a brass drift instead of steel to avoid mushrooming the pin end. Worked like a charm after a few light taps with that feeler gap trick too. Your mileage may vary but softer metal has saved me a lot of patience over the years.

A brass drift instead of steel? That never even crossed my mind. All these years I've been banging away with a steel punch and wondering why my pins look like they've been through a war. That feeler gap trick was new to me too, but the brass idea might save me from buying new pins down the road. I've got a couple Grove machines that are older than dirt and the pins are already chewed up. Might have to pick up a brass drift at the supply house this week and give it a shot. Your buddy saved me a lot of future headache with that one.
