Boom angle indicator saved my butt on a tight job in Detroit

Last Thursday we were setting steel on a cramped site downtown. Street closed half the block, power lines overhead, barely enough room for outriggers. My old habit was eyeballing the boom angle from the cab. Got away with it for six years on bigger sites. But this one had a blind spot where the load went behind a wall. I finally wired in an angle indicator, the kind that reads from a pendant. First lift with it showed I was 4 degrees steeper than I thought. That meant about 2 feet less clearance under the lines. Without it, I would have tagged the service drop for sure. Rigger called it a miracle, I called it math. Has anyone else added one after a close call and found their setup feels way more solid now?
