My buddy kept dying in level 3 of Contra, so I took away his controller for one night
We were stuck on the waterfall level in Contra for about two hours last Friday and my friend kept running into the same bullet every single life. I got frustrated and made a deal with him: no controller for you until I get through it once, just watch the screen and yell where things come from. It sounded dumb, but he sat back and actually started calling out 'jump now' and 'duck' at the right times, and I cleared the level on my third try. Turns out he was so busy mashing buttons he never learned the spawn pattern, and watching me play showed him the rhythm in about 10 minutes. After that we swapped and he got through it solo on his second life. Has anyone else tried the watch-first thing with a couch buddy who is stuck, or does it just make people mad?
