Used to section off hair with those cheap metal clips, now I just use my fingers

Back when I started 6 years ago at a salon in Austin, I was all about those metal duckbill clips. Would spend 5 minutes sectioning before every cut. Last week I had a walk-in with a full head of wet hair and zero clips in my bag. Just started pinching and twisting sections with my hands, worked way better. Now I only grab clips if it's super thick or curly. Does anyone else ditch tools over time or do you stick with what you learned?

Isn't it funny how we all simplify stuff as we get better at it?

You ever feel like you're supposed to make things complicated to prove you know your stuff? I used to think that way, like if I explained something simple it meant I wasn't an expert. But this post actually made me rethink that. Now I see that cutting out the fluff and getting straight to the point is way harder than adding extra steps. So maybe the real skill is knowing what to leave out, not what to pile on?
