Thought perming was a scam until my instructor made me practice on her own mom
I used to think perms were something only old ladies got and that the whole process was mostly a way to sell chemicals, but my instructor at the school in Boise made me do a full wrap on her mom for our state board prep. That woman's hair held the curl for almost 4 months and she came back to hug me, which was weird but nice. Does anyone else have a technique they looked down on until a client proved them totally wrong?
The part about thinking perms were "mostly a way to sell chemicals" hits home because I said the same thing in beauty school and my instructor just smiled and handed me a perm rod. Joke was on me, my first spiral wrap looked like a bird tried to nest in someone's hair and she made me redo the whole head. Four months of hold on her mom though, that's a solid flex for your wrap. I still owe my instructor an apology for the eye roll I gave her on perm day.
