That toner disaster that ate up my whole Saturday

I had a client come in last month wanting to go from box dye black to a caramel balayage. I figured it would take maybe 4 hours with lifting and toning. Nine hours later I was still fighting orange bands in her midsection because the black dye had this weird metallic buildup. Has anyone else run into a color correction that completely blew up your whole day?

Had a buddy who tried to go from black box dye to silver. He figured it'd take one afternoon. Three days later he was still in his bathroom with foils in his hair, crying over purple toner stains on his sink. The black dye just would not lift past a muddy brown no matter how much bleach he used. He finally gave up and just dyed it all dark brown again. Cost him like forty bucks in supplies and a whole weekend wasted.
