Shoutout to a client who called my blowouts 'heavy'
A regular came in last Tuesday and straight up said, 'Taylor, my hair feels like a helmet after you style it.' Ouch. But she was right. I watched her walk out and the bounce was gone after ten steps. I've been using the same round brush and high heat for years, thinking volume was the goal. I tried her next appointment with a medium heat setting, a vent brush instead of a round one, and focused on drying the roots first before even touching the ends. The difference was huge. Her hair had movement all day and she texted me a picture from dinner. I guess I was so stuck on getting it 'done' that I forgot about how it should feel. Has anyone else had a simple comment make you switch up a basic technique?

That part about being so stuck on getting it 'done' really hit me. I used to pack on the setting spray at the end of every makeup application, like it wasn't finished without that final coat. A bride told me her face felt like plastic wrap and she was scared to smile. Now I just spot spray the T-zone and let the rest breathe. It looks so much more like skin, and it lasts just as long. Why did I ever think more was better?

What brand of spray were you using back then?
