Serious question, a client told me her last stylist used box dye on her hair and I can't stop thinking about it
I do color out of a small suite in Raleigh and last Tuesday a new client sat down and said her old stylist of 4 years was mixing drugstore box color into her bowls to stretch the product. She pulled up photos and honestly the grow out looked patchy as heck. I spent the whole appointment wondering if this is common in some shops or if this lady just had a bad run. Now I second guess every new client consult. Do yall ask directly about past color, or do you just strand test and move on?
My cousin worked at a Great Clips in Greensboro and told me the manager would buy those cheap $3 color kits from Walmart when the salon supply order ran late. Same thing, just stretching what they had. It's everywhere if you look. I see it at the grocery store too, people buying day old bread and serving it like it's fresh. Or the taqueria near me that waters down the salsa. Everyone cuts corners when nobody's watching. So yeah, ask about past color at the consult. Just work it into the small talk so it doesn't feel like an interrogation.
