I think we're way too obsessed with those all-in-one color deposit shampoos
I mean, I get why everyone loves them. They're quick and easy. But I keep seeing newer stylists using them as a substitute for actual glosses and toners. At the salon I work at in Portland, maybe 6 or 7 stylists now just slap a colored shampoo on clients to refresh their blonde between appointments. The problem is these shampoos don't penetrate the cuticle the same way. After like three or four washes, the color just looks patchy and weird. I had a client last month who came in crying because her ends were purple and her roots were yellow after using a purple shampoo every day for two weeks. We had to do a full correction that cost her $180. Has anyone else noticed these products getting overused or is it just the salons around me?

You got me, I used to swear by them but this post changed my mind.

Oh man, you just called me OUT. I am GUILTY of being one of those people who treated purple shampoo like a magic potion. I literally had a moment last month where I walked into work with a weird greenish tint on my bangs because I left that stuff on way too long in the shower. My coworker just stared at me and asked if I'd been swimming in a pool. It was SO embarrassing. The patchy color thing is real too, I've definitely noticed my ends looking kind of sad and blotchy after a week of using it every day. I guess I just wanted the easy fix without putting in the real work, you know? Your client's story is a NIGHTMARE though, I'm glad she found someone who could actually fix it.
