Had a client yell at me for using the wrong brand of purple shampoo

Was doing a toner service on this lady in Tulsa last Thursday and she freaked out when she saw I was using a different purple shampoo than her usual one. Said I was going to ruin her highlights because some YouTuber told her only one brand works. I explained that most purple shampoos use the same basic violet pigment, just different strengths. She calmed down after I showed her the ingredients list side by side. Has anyone else dealt with clients who think they know more than you because of a video they watched?

That approach of showing the ingredients list is smart, it helps when people see the facts laid out plainly. I had a similar situation where a client insisted on a specific vacuum for their carpets because a YouTuber recommended it, and I just pulled up the spec comparisons on my phone to show the difference was minimal. Usually once they see the evidence, they relax and trust you know what you're doing.

Yeah I actually read something just the other day about this. Purple shampoo is basically just toner in a bottle, and the main difference between brands is usually just how much pigment they pack in there. But yeah clients get so stuck on one thing they saw online and it's tough to convince them otherwise.
