A client's throwaway comment about old photos made me rethink my foils

Yesterday this lady in her 60s was telling me about her wedding pics from 1985 and how her highlight stripes looked so chunky and fake. She laughed about it but said she actually loved them because that was just the style then. It hit me that I spend so much time obsessing over seamless blending and natural dimension, but in 30 years my current work will probably look dated too. I asked her if she'd go back and change them and she said no way, which got me thinking about how we judge our own work too harshly. Anyone else ever had a client say something that made you step back from chasing the latest trend?
