A client told me my color formulas were 'winging it' and I changed my whole booking system
I had a client named Dana in my chair about 3 months ago who asked how I tracked my color formulas, and I told her honestly that I mostly remember the mix from the previous visit and figure it out as I go. She said something like 'so every visit is kind of a fresh guess' and she was not trying to be mean but it landed hard. The thing is she was right, I had one client where I went a shade too warm twice in a row because I was going off memory instead of my own notes. So now every single client gets a card taped inside their file with the exact formula, the developer volume, the timing down to the minute, and what the result looked like on day one. It costs me maybe 4 extra minutes per service and my redo rate has basically dropped to nothing since April. I also started taking a photo with their permission so I can see what I actually sent them out the door with. It felt like admitting I was sloppy for years, but honestly my book is fuller now and Dana has referred me 2 friends since then. Does anyone else keep written cards, or is everyone already doing this and I was just the last one?
