A client told me my $65 haircut was 'just a trim' and I am still mad about it 3 days later
So I was finishing up a root touch up on Tuesday and the lady in my chair, real nice, been coming to me for 2 years, says her sister told her a trim should only cost $25. I just nodded and kept foiling. Here is the thing, I do not do a $25 trim. I wash, I cut, I dry, I style, and it takes me 45 minutes minimum. That is not a trim, that is a haircut. She paid full price, she always does, but she said it out loud like she was waiting for me to argue. I did not argue. I just handed her the mirror and let the cut talk. But it stuck with me all week and it messed up my mood for my 2 o'clock. My teacher at Aveda told us in 2019 that the price is the price, and the second you defend it you already lost. Do you all just smile through that stuff or do you say something back?
You said it "messed up your mood for my 2 o'clock" and honestly that part is what gets me. A lady you have been cutting for two years made one offhand comment about her sister and it cost you a whole afternoon? That seems like a lot. She paid full price, she always pays full price, and she never actually asked you to lower anything. People say stuff like that all the time, it is just noise, not a demand. Being mad for three days over a comment nobody even argued about sounds exhausting. Your teacher's advice was right, let it go, but you let it live in your head rent free anyway.
