A client in Portland told me my blowouts were too tight
She said her scalp was sore for two days and she felt like her hair was being pulled out. I was using a round brush and high heat, thinking that was the only way to get that smooth look. I switched to a larger barrel brush and lower heat, focusing more on the ends first. Has anyone else had to adjust their technique for sensitive scalps?

My friend had the same thing happen, she gave a woman a blowout that was way too tight. The client came back saying her head hurt so bad she took pain meds, which is a huge wake-up call. My friend started using a bigger brush and stopped pulling so hard at the roots. She said the style still lasts, you just have to be way more gentle near the scalp.

My cousin got a blowout so tight it gave her a tension headache, which sounds awful (and totally avoidable).

Wow, I used to think you had to pull really tight for it to last. Stories like this totally changed how I do it now. A gentle touch at the roots works just fine.
